Alert Innovation

The Alphabot, an industrial robot built to function in commercial storage facilities, was the subject of one of our most recent client projects for Alert Innovation.

Symbiotic Film employed Unreal Engine exclusively on a commercial project for the first time and did so with remarkable success. The conversion of industrial animation from 3D Studio Max to Unreal Engine was a part of this new approach. Included in this was the initial 3D industrial model, which required a significant amount of lighting and texture map conversion. Future projects will undoubtedly benefit from having lighting and rendering done in close to real time.

Official Selection 2022 Rockaway Film Festival: Rockaway Wildlife

The premiere of Rockaway Wildlife took place at The Brewery in Rockaway Beach, and it was a huge success.

This "fly on the wall" documentary explores the lifestyle and surfing scene in Rockaway Beach in New York. Director Aldo Romero characterizes this video, which was shot at New York's Rockaway Beach over the course of one summer in 2022, as "Cinematic poetry via the perspective of drone footage." The movie serves as a metaphor for contrasting the free-spirited way of life of surfers, skateboarders, and other urban wildlife with dolphins and other marine species found along the east coast.

The Chambers

The Chambers, a streaming pilot about the inner workings of a fictional supreme court, just finished extensive green screen work to create virtual set.

The Chambers – In God We Trust is a winner of numerous awards in the festival circuit including Best Web/ TV Series at the Crown Point International Film Festival, as well as others in festivals like Florence Film Awards and the Hollywood Gold Awards. An entire "virtual set" was created in Autodesk 3D Studio Max for this project complete with furniture, light fixtures desk and bookcase (including details of the law books). Lighting was carefully created to match the live action elements in the original shot which included the American flag and chairs actors were sitting on. The 3D model was composited in Adobe After Effects and Nuke to line up the shots. Post-production editing in Final Cut X stitched the entire scene together into one seamless sequence.

A combination of software included Adobe After Effects and Nuke for compositing. Parts of the practical set were recreated digitally in order to interact with many of the plasma lighting effects, including the "portal sphere of energy" VFX. "The fighting scenes were a particular challenge", says visual Effects supervisor Aldo Romero, "As we had to rotoscope fast moving fight moves in order to composite the plasma energy effects on hands and punch impacts as well as the glowing eyes.

Life's Work, directed by Jon Mancinetti .
Not A Star, music video directed by Jon Mancinetti .

Symbiotic Film successful collaboration with Mancinetti culminated in the completion of 4 projects.

VFX Supervision for Space Dust resulted in the spectacular space warp scene using dense 2D compositing that is reminiscent of the trip sequence in 2001 a Space Odyssey. Motion Graphics and animation elements created the visuals for the music video, “Not a Star” for artist Dan T. Utilizing Type Monkey AE script tool to create the the animated text, the lyrics were animated to the beat of the music.
